The conquest of the moon is a historic event that took place on july 20, 1969, when astronaut neil armstrong set foot on the moon. This event was achieved thanks to an american space program called "project apollo", which aimed to put a man on the moon before the end of the decade. Armstrong's apollo 11 mission was launched from cape canaveral launch station in florida and landed on the moon six hours later. Armstrong and teammate edwin "buzz" aldrin spent more than two hours exploring the lunar surface, collecting soil samples and installing scientific instruments. The conquest of the moon was an important historical moment, which paved the way for other space missions and sparked the imagination and curiosity of humanity. Map of the moon (face up and far side) and space shuttles published in the late 60s. The map features portraits of apollo 8 astronauts frank borman, james lovell and william anders, as well as a portrait of cosmonaut yuri gagarin.
