Ingmar Relling Optima armchair / lounge chair for Westnofa 1980

Optima Relax chair is Ingmar Relling's last major launch in 1988 the result of an emerging collaboration between father and son Knut Relling. The chair is naturally inspired by the design and construction principles of Ingmar Relling. The supreme perspective of his work was that the objects he designed should be useful to people in their daily lives; it was not only a question of form but much more importantly of content and quality of life. With Optima Ingmar Relling provides exemplary proof of this perspective. Here he provides evidence of a superb harmony in which form truly follows function precisely reflecting the essence of the functionalist. Simplicity and a rigorous but logical expression give Relling chairs their unique character. They clearly bear the signature of a great master. Structure in chromed tubular steel, seat in soft extendable leather, reclining leather backrest using a swivel mechanism, removable and continuously adjustable pillow. The plastic tips on the backrest are partially broken, see last photos. It still works despite the small defect.
