Description
A set of two chairs model 157 from Børge Mogensen for Søborg Møbler. Designer Børge Mogensen was born in Aalborg, Denmark, in 1914. He studied furniture design at the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts under the esteemed Professor Kaare Klint from 1936 to 1938. Then he studied at the furniture school of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts from 1938 to 1941, where he was also Klint's teaching assistant. In 1942, Mogensen became head of design at the Danish Consumers Co-perative Society (fdb). He opened his own design office in 1950, and was one of a handful of designers who helped define and popularize the "danish modern" design style. Mogensen's aesthetics were clean and very functional. He was pushed to create affordable and practical designs, and his favorite material was wood. Clients include Fredericia Stolefabrik, Fritz Hansen and Soborg Môbelfabrik, among others. He received the Eckersberg Medal in 1950, the Copenhagen Carpentry Guild's annual award in 1953 and the c.f. Medal. Hansen in 1972. Mogensen died in Denmark in 1972. This teak and wicker chairs manufactured by Soborg Mobelfabrik in Copenhagen show the clean and functional design of Mogensen's skills as a designer is still recognizable after nearly 50 years. The whole is unique and in good condition.
