"KD 27" lamp by Joe Colombo published by Kartell from 1967, green ABS base and opaline PMMMA (altuglas) light globe, all in good condition. The collaboration between Kartell and Joe Colombo dates back to the 1960s and has been very successful in the field of furniture and design object design. Joe Colombo, real name Cesare Colombo, was a renowned Italian designer famous for his innovative and functional designs. Kartell, for its part, is an Italian company specializing in the manufacture of furniture and plastic objects. One of the most iconic collaborations between Joe Colombo and Kartell is the "Universale" chair, launched in 1965. This molded plastic chair has become a classic of contemporary design, recognizable by its simple and ergonomic shape. She became iconic for her innovative use of plastic in furniture, and she paved the way for many other collaborations between designers and plastic furniture manufacturers including our KD 27 lamp from 1967. In addition to the Universale chair, Colombo has also designed other pieces for Kartell, including lamps and interior accessories. Their collaboration helped shape the Italian design landscape of the 1960s and beyond, introducing innovative shapes and modern materials into homes around the world. Unfortunately, the collaboration between Kartell and Joe Colombo was ended prematurely due to the designer's untimely death in 1971. However, the designs they produced together continue to be sought after by collectors and admirers of contemporary design.
