Rectangular in shape, decorated with large gadroons topped with friezes carved with roses, resting on four ball feet, with openwork grips on the sides, vermeil interior. Good condition. Title hallmark: 84, saint-petersburg, 1827. Hallmark of the master goldsmith: anton iwersen, active from 1811 to 1830. H.: 38 cm - w.: 28 cm - d.: 17 cm. Gross weight: 2 k 360 grs. Estimate: €5, 000/6, 000 finely chiseled piece, baluster-shaped, decorated with stylized foliage, resting on a triangular base, hallmark 84 from the 19th century. Russian cyrillic characters. This hallmark is represented by a cyrillic number or letter next to which is a kokochnik head. For works in sterling silver, the standard hallmark is mark 84 which guarantees an amount of 87.5% pure precious metal. With rotating embossed decoration of oval ornamental gadroon, in the shape of a protruding olive, egg or almond. It is a strongly swollen version of the ove. Generally, this type of relief groove is arranged in a symmetrical frieze to decorate the rounded body of the tank and the convex surfaces. This name also applies to certain convex, very prominent ornamental motifs applied to moldings, mainly for the decoration of pieces of goldwork.
