Description
Traditional 19th century tribal chair from the swat valley, north pakistan. A traditional 19th century tribal chair in the swat valley in northern pakistan. A low-seat chair, 6 1/2 inches high, in the typical style of the swat valley region of northern pakistan, with a high, straight and richly decorated backrest. The constituent elements are partly turned decoratively and assembled by tenon and wedged mortise. The seat is made of tightly braided leather strips. The upper part of the chair is held by leather straps, which at the same time help to stabilize the backrest. The front faces of the upper parts are richly decorated with deep relief decorations in the form of chips. It clearly has a very good patina of old use. Apart from a few torn leather straps in the seat, the part is otherwise in good condition. The chair is 72cm high, 50cm wide and 47cm deep.
