Pierre Vandel side coffee table, a pair, gilt metal, 1970`s ca, French

This set of tables were made in france by pierre vandel paris. Both have the original maker`s label on the frame. The large square size, low height & geometric sculptural forms make these tables interesting & practical. They can be used either as side tables or placed next to each other making a central rectangular coffee table. The double interlocking frames, repeated geometric details, bevelled glass and satin golden tone keep the modernist design elegant & chic. Each frame is divided into its core parts in the constructivist manner. They would suit a range of interiors such as art deco, mid-century modern, hollywood regency, 70`s glamour. The eye is drawn to the table top: two square section profiles that are `floating` horizontally above each other. In fact these profiles are joined together by four rectangular details between the profiles. This detail is discretely hidden and on only two opposite sides; the other sides are free of this feature. The result is the illusion of floating. The frame of the table is composed of square profile tubing. It is finished with linear indentation and a plated surface of brushed effect satin finish and brass tone. The table legs have the same square profile. At the bottom the original black stoppers are all present. Each clear square glass top is original. The glass top is securely held in place by four flat pegs. These pegs are not stationary but slide along the frame allowing adjustment for perfect placement. There are rubber stoppers on the pegs to secure the glass in place. The clear glass is quality with a thickness of 8 mm and bevelled at 2.7 cm. The result creates depth and a subtle emerald green effect. The glass tops can be removed for cleaning & transport. These tables are in very good vintage condition. The frames are sound & strong. The gold plating is in good condition with minor marks in places. The original vintage glass tops are in good condition with no chips or cracks and only tiny superficial marks.
