Description
Leonetto cappiello, born on april 9, 1875, studied in livorno and published in italy a first album of caricatures in 1895. Settled in 1898 in paris, where he began his career as a cartoonist, he collaborated with many newspapers, including le rire, le sourire, l'assiette au beurre, le cri de paris. His career as a poster artist began in 1900 and continued until the 1930s. He remained loyal to the vercasson printing house until the early 1920s, cappiello is also known for his caricatural statuettes, in terracotta or plaster, such as those of réjane and yvette guilbert, as well as for his book illustrations, such as voltaire's the princess of babylon and apollinaire's the murdered poet, and for his portraits, including those of henri de régnier and his brother-in-law paul adam. He was a member of the jury of miss france 1936.
