Beautiful pedestal dressing table with elegant violet wood veneer. Dimensions (height/width/depth) 71 X 85 X 47 cm shape: crossbow front, the dressing table rests on four arched legs. Openings: at the level of the top: three movable shutters, revealing a central mirror and two lockers. On the front: a writing tablet and five drawers. Marquetry: violet wood veneer. >> pierre migeon (1721) born in paris on august 13, 1696, pierre migeon came from a family of cabinetmakers, all named pierre. Fourth in his line, he is therefore called peter IV to recognize him. Trained in the workshop of his father, pierre iii, he probably obtained his master's degree in 1721 and joined the family factory, rue de charenton. An exceptionally talented cabinetmaker, he benefited from the protection of the marquise de pompadour. From 1740, he worked for the garde-meuble de la couronne and for menus-plaisirs. He also delivered works to a prestigious clientele such as the duke of orléans, the duchess of rohan, the duchess of epernon, the marshal of noailles but also several bishops, ambassadors and high dignitaries. He creates sumptuous furniture in precious wood veneered with violet wood and lacquer. The so-called “butterfly wing” veneer is also typical of pierre IV migeon. Fascinated by mechanical devices, he also created several pieces of transforming furniture. One of his transforming writing tables is also visible at the château de versailles. Although a cabinetmaker, pierre IV migeon also worked as a merchant and thus collaborated with many of the most renowned cabinetmakers of his time such as: bircklé, boudin, canabas, criard (or criaerd), delaitre, j.dubois, lacroix, saunier or even péridiez, topino, vandercruse.
