Very old and beautiful color lithograph of butterflies. Illustration of heterocera (heterocera in latin), including rufocinta, suborder noctuae. This plate is an original from 1887. It is not a copy but an engraving of more than 130 years! Size: 28 X 21 cm. A detailed and realistic work from a specialized book; with about thirty different species illustrated. The condition of the engraving is very good: edges just a little worn / soiled. Folds bottom right corner. Once framed, it will be little seen and will give a beautiful vintage effect. Discount for the purchase of several boards: contact me. The size is ideal for framing. It fits perfectly within a standard framework. The paper used is of high quality, cream color. Often colored manually, the colors are vibrant, sharp and well contrasted: a remarkable work. Note, the back is without text or image. The author of the work is dr. E. Hofmann, a famous entomologist (1837 - 1892) specializing in insects, especially lepidoptera (lepidoptera). His entomology collections, butterfly are held at the natural history museum in london and the national museum of natural history in washington. The rhopalocera (or "butterflies" in the common sense) are a former suborder of lepidoptera. It is opposed to heterocera (heterocera, or "moths"). Board no.: 34. Sending possible. Contact me for a purchase of several boards: discount and single shipping costs. I propose other boards of the same series, to be found on my profile. Do not hesitate to contact me for any questions.
