Very old and beautiful color lithograph of butterflies. Illustration of heterocera (heterocera in latin), including rufocinta, suborder noctuae. This plate is an original from 1887. It is not a copy but an engraving of more than 130 years! Size: 28 X 21 cm. A detailed and realistic work from a specialized book; with about thirty different species illustrated. The condition of the engraving is very good: edges just a little worn / soiled. Folds bottom right corner. Once framed, it will be little seen and will give a beautiful vintage effect. Hofmann, a famous entomologist (1837 - 1892) specializing in insects, especially lepidoptera (lepidoptera). His entomology collections, butterfly are held at the natural history museum in london and the national museum of natural history in washington.
