Albert baertsoen was born into a family of important spinners. He started working at the age of 15, continuing his education in the workshop of gustave den duys, whose influence we find in his works. He then continued his studies as an artist under jean delvin. After a short period spent in the family business, albert decided to devote himself to his artistic career. He made a studio in ghent, his hometown, from his window he could see the river, which would inspire many of his paintings. In 1887 he exhibited his paintings at the paris salon. After winning a gold medal at the antwerp salon in 1888, he went to paris to hone his skills in alfred roll's workshop. He stayed there until 1893 before returning to his hometown. "the thaw" is considered the masterpiece of the belgian artist. This incredible painting impresses with its very realistic vision of a winter day in ghent, on the banks of the lees, which baertsoen sees every day. In june 1899, he became a member of the new society of painters and sculptors, founded in paris. Photos are part of the description.
