Description
Kilim ancient "Sofreh" (Iran) of the twentieth century (more than 50 years). This square-cut flat-weaved wool kilim, using mainly vegetable dyes, were originally made by the nomadic tribes of Iran, mainly in the southern part, such as Afshâr Sīrjān, who used to migrate with all their belongings and animals. Sofreh kilims are specifically used as flooring due to its practicality during migration, for their daily meals where they place all the food on the kilim and sit, hence the square shape which is more convenient when the family is seated just as similar to sitting around the table. In addition, they are also used to preserve flour when making their daily bread. These are often simple geometric designs, passed down from mother to daughter with their own creativity. Many Western artists have been inspired by their simplicity and have adapted their contemporary creations to their current works of art.
