Description
Old geographical school map of french indochina, physical and economic, by pierre deffontaines, hatier editions. Very good state. 40s-50s. French indochina was born from a conquest which lasted more than thirty years (1862 for cochinchina, 1863 for cambodia, 1884 for tonkin and annam, 1896 for laos). This map, dated around 1945-1950, shows the advantages of colonization for the metropolis which benefited in particular from exports of rice, a significant complement to the cereals grown in france. Silk is also manufactured there, and spices (cinnamon, coffee, vanilla, pepper, etc.) are produced there. The territory includes, in the north, tonkin with its capital hanoi, annam which occupies the eastern slope of the annamite chain along the coast of the china sea of which hué is the capital, then, behind, laos which occupies the western slope of the chain up to the mekong and whose capital is vientiane, then cochinchina, whose capital is saigon, and to the east, cambodia, with phnom penh as its capital.
