Description
This beautiful framed antique engraving is titled "le retour au pays" by the printer j.hesse. After the war of 1870, this engraving depicts soldiers, men and women in mourning, a child and an alsatian woman in a cemetery. It is a landscape of desolation and ruin with strasbourg cathedral in the background. This original engraving is framed by a marie-louise, preserved in a superb gilded frame with gold leaf. The four corners are decorated with rock arabesques. The paper is yellowed grayed out. It is not a recent print but an authentic old print. The frame measures 77 cm X 66 cm. I report small chips on the frame and wear of the gilding in places.
