Wooden and bronze temple horse

Temple horse decorated with stamped brass ornaments, solid wood body, brass or bronze head. North India, early twentieth century. These horses, often called "Temple Toys", mounted on small wheeled boards, were offerings to the gods deposited in the temple. In good condition, normal oxidation marks (greyworm patina) Provenance: Estate of the Southeast Asian art collector and dealer Claude de Marteau.
