Art Deco napkin ring in silver plated - guilloche decor wood pattern 1910-1920

This magnificent old napkin ring is silver plated. Round in shape, it is decorated with a superb guilloche decoration repeating the wood grain patterns. In the center, a medallion allows you to personalize it. The napkin ring is a traditional gift: in the past, in wealthy families, the godmother offered a silver object to the child (hence the expression "to be born with a silver spoon in your mouth). The napkin ring napkin was part of everyday jewelry objects and constituted a safe haven, transmitted to the protégé. This present could be accompanied by an egg cup, a spoon or a timpani. The child will keep this present all his life and will use it on a daily basis. It measures 5 cm X 3 cm and shows scratches from use and traces of oxidation.
