A pair of bookends depicting two toucans with slightly inclined heads, and polychrome porcelain eyes. In regulator with chrome patina, on base in pink veined marble. Signature of the sculptor hyppolite moreau (pseudo franjou) on the back of the bird. Period: circa 1930. Dimensions: length 13 cm, height 14.2 cm, width 8 cm. Very good condition. François hippolyte moreau (1832–1926), french sculptor second son of the sculptor jean-baptiste-louis-joseph moreau, he trained in his father's studio. From 1863 to 1914, he exhibited at the salon des artistes français with decorative subjects most often inspired by the eighteenth century. He won a medal at the universal exhibition of 1878 and another at the universal exhibition of 1900. He mainly produces medium-sized works and decorative or everyday objects: vases, statuettes, paper cutters, bronze, regulator or pewter pockets. He signs his production of animal sculpture also with his pseudonym franjou.
