Matryoshka nesting doll

Small hand-painted matryoshka nesting doll russian dolls or matriochkas are series of dolls of decreasing sizes placed one inside the other. The word matryoshka is derived from the female first name matriona, traditionally associated with a russian woman from the countryside, robust and generously shaped. We also sometimes speak of a nesting doll, in reference to the puppet of the nesting mother, which represents a large and strong woman surrounded by children.
