Dwarf carpets are among the finest crafts in iran. The city lies on the border of one of iran's largest deserts, the dasht-e-kavir desert. Almost no other hand-knotted carpet is as esteemed as the dwarf. Depending on the density of nodes, they are classified as 4la, 6la, 9la or 12la. The smaller the number, the higher the quality and the more expensive the carpet. A 4la has node densities of over one million knots per square meter and is therefore very attractive to collectors.
