Art glassware in opaline pigeon throat color maison loetz "johann loetz witwe", in klostermühle in bohemia, austro-hungarian empire period late 19th century this is a production from its early years: 1880-1897 color referenced "aurora" for opal pink with shoulder in gilded and silvered bronze absence of the frame at the foot neither crack nor chip dimensions: height 15.5cm, length 23.5, and width 16.5cm very careful shipping. Opaline... By their finesse, their variety and their colors, whether decorative or utilitarian, they bear witness to a 19th century imbued with femininity and refinement. Behind the generic term, adopted by antique dealers in reference to the iridescence of opal, hide various materials and multiple forms tracing nearly a century of creation, from the first empire to the napoleon III era. The opalization of glass, obtained by the addition of tin oxide, has been known in venice since the 16th century. It gradually spread to the rest of europe, but it was in france, from the 1810s, that it was applied to a lead-based glass developed in great britain in the 17th century, crystal. The first national opalines in blown glass, luxury objects made by the crystal factories of baccarat, le creusot, saint-louis and, a little later, by the factories of bercy and choisy-le-roi, then took the name of opal crystal. Sober, they adopt silhouettes inspired by antiquity, then in vogue. Most often tinted with lime, opal crystals are a slightly milky white characterized by their glowing reflections. Other colors exist, including turquoise, blue available in ultramarine, lavender or linen blue, but most are irregular. Little produced, yellow and jade green are now sought after by collectors due to their rarity. However, one shade dethrones them in the pantheon of opalines: pigeon-gorge pink. Its demanding manufacturing, obtained by the addition of gold salts, makes it a luxury color. It is today the most popular.
