Description
Period: ca. 1760-1780. This magnificent and relatively large parclose mirror dates from the louis XVI era, circa 1760-1780. The frame is made of carved and openwork oak that has been gilded. The crest has a neoclassical flowering urn pattern and c-scrolls. The sides have rococo c scrolls and acanthus leaves. Two laurel garlands adorn the bottom frame. The mixture of rococo and neoclassical styles dates from the transition period of louis XV - louis XVI. It is probably provincially manufactured. The central mirror is beveled. The mirrors have oxidation marks and appear to be mercury. Status: good. Mirrors have oxidation marks. The small left lower segment has an old crack, other than that there is no damage. The condition of the gilding is good with an ancient antique patina. Dimensions: 89 cm high, 49 cm wide, 2 -3 cm thick, 5 kg.
