Large art deco crystal cup – cristallerie de nancy (1920-1934)

2858 – from the art deco period, this large crystal fruit bowl stamped by cristalleries de nancy (1920 -1934) and signed “crina” in good condition. No cracks or chips. Very strong crystal clear sound. Polychrome decoration of fruits with black band from the auguste houillon period (1885-1954), artistic director in 1921 of this manufacture. The transparency of the material enhances this beautiful decor. Truly exceptional and rare object on the market for crystal lovers from this period of the early 20th century. The crystal from this manufacture has a lead (pbo) content of 35%, ensuring the highest refraction and dispersion of light. Height 86mm X 360mm. Weight 5, 000 g. Very careful and tracked shipping. For information, an excellent 2020 work by gérard caussaint titled “nancy, the forgotten crystal factory” and printed in 1000 copies (aloraf éditions – lorraine graphic imprimerie), was published for the centenary of the creation of the cristalleries de nancy by éditions aloraf (académie lorraine des arts du feu), traces the wonderful and unfortunate short history of this crystal factory. It is in the favorable context, where renowned manufacturers producing crystal bottles for luxury perfumery and unable to honor the numerous orders coming from all over the world, that jules alexis bayet built his own crystal factory in nancy, just opposite of that of daum, to meet this strong demand of course but also to produce toiletries, glass services, cups, vases and fantasy objects in pure art deco style appreciated internationally. After recruiting the best designers, engineers and art masters, the first luxury bottles stamped in a circle “cn, separated by the cross of lorraine, nancy” were produced in 1921. While prosperity was there, the stock market crisis of 1929 and the blocking of exports.
