An oil on panel depicting a snowy landscape at the wash house. Signed lower right charles picart le doux, dated 1937. Brass plate engraved on the back. Baguette framing. Dimensions 46 X 55 cm. Good condition. Charles alexandre rené picart le doux (1881–1959), french painter. Around 1900 he entered the school of fine arts of jean-léon gérôme. A friend of renoir, he freed himself from academicism and adopted an impressionist style for his landscapes. Picart le doux will present at the salons of the société nationale des beaux-arts, at the salon d'automne, at the salon des tuileries. Painter of the group of the school of paris, he received in 1937 the great medal at the international exhibition of paris. He worked as a teacher in a free academy in montparnasse. In 1950, he was named officer of the legion of honor. In addition to paintings, he made various wall decorations, including the ceilings of the liner normandie. He also illustrated many literary works.
