Ancient chinese carpet from east turkestan, formerly called "samarkand carpet". This model is more precisely from the city of yarkand (west). End of 19th. Wool rug, knotted by hand. Vegetable dye. Decoration of pomegranates, symbol of fertility. Borders decorated with sheep horns called "argali".
