An etching of napoleon bonaparte signed dulos cover of the book souvenir of the universal exhibition of 1867 “the last days of napoleon the first”, by commander vincent vela framed under wooden glass period: 19th century dimensions: approximately 45 X 25 cm pierre dulos (1820-1874), french engraver. There are several dulos, engravers in the 18th and 19th centuries. From 1846, pierre dulos illustrated numerous scientific publications, such as the study of the plates of the “annals of the imperial observatory of paris”, by urbain-jean-joseph le verrier. Dulos will chemically improve the copper engraving process around 1860; he did not obtain academic approval but at the end of the 19th century, certain works improving the art of photography were inspired by his engraving work. With dulos, engraving enters its pre-industrialization: burins are definitively replaced by chemical processes which make it possible to insert figures at affordable costs and with impeccable graphic clarity. At the universal exhibition of 1855, dulos was presented as "designer and engraver in title of the ecole polytechnique", and was awarded a 2nd class medal.
