Description
Peacock or "Emmanuelle" armchair in woven natural rattan with a wide flared back and "tam-tam" seat. The backrest features an openwork peacock feather pattern. Originally, this type of armchair was called pomare after the last dynasty of the kings of Tahiti. It was a throne for representations, used on the island since 1743. Legend says that Pomare V's nephew, Prince Hinoi, died in this type of armchair. In 1974, in the erotic film Emmanuelle directed by Just Jaeckin, Sylvia Kristel poses lasciviously in one of these armchairs giving her her new name. The object then becomes a symbol of desire and sensuality. This armchair with a very recognizable profile is the result of long and tedious work by craftsmen. Good general condition, some missing pieces of rattan visible in the photos. Width: 87 (cm) Height 143 (cm) Depth 60 (cm).
