Description
Artificial mandrakes, naked and clothed. Representation based on the mandrake with its flowers and fruits. According to legend, when the root is dug up, it screams and kills anyone who hears it. Their roots have long been used in magical rituals. This old original engraving comes from the work: "geographic and iconographic atlas of the complete course of sacred scripture, engraved by twenty distinguished artists from paris, under the direction of théophile blanchard and barrere frères", published by ml migné, paris. 1844. In very good state of conservation. Some handling marks. See detail photos. Small holes in the left margin of the binding. The size including margins is approximately 28 X 37.5 cm. The image size is approximately 19.5 X 30 cm.
