Vintage cigarette box from the famous company seita, in velvet and synthetic leather...in good condition with minimal traces of wear. This former public company was founded as a service in 1926, under the presidency of raymond poincaré and under the name of service d'exploitation industrielle des tabacs (seit), and attached to the caisse autonome de gestion des bons de la défense nationale et d'amortissement de la dette publique. It took over the powers of the tobacco monopoly re-established in 1810 by napoleon I. In 1935, the service absorbed the monopoly of matches, then leased to a state company named compagnie générale des allumettes chimiques, and thus became seita3. The latter then controlled 22 tobacco factories spread throughout the national territory and sold only the gauloises and gitanes brands. Société nationale d'exploitation industrielle des tabacs et allumettes, formerly service d'exploitation industrielle des tabacs et allumettes, better known by its acronym seita, is a french company in the tobacco sector. State authority at its creation, it had a monopoly on tobacco cultivation in france until 1970, as well as on the manufacture and sale of tobacco and matches until 19762. Seita produces the cigarette and tobacco brands gitanes, gauloises, royale, news, bastos, fine 120, django and amsterdamer. Renamed altadis in 1999 following its merger with tabacalera, the group became a subsidiary of imperial tobacco in 2008, which has since become imperial brands.
