Robert schwarz -- “for malevich” -- 1990 -- handprinted lithographs on packing paper -- -- 240 × 240 mm|9 3/8 × 9 3/8 in -- 330 × 330 mm|13 × 13 in (framed size) -- edition: 24/30 ---- a pair of fine subtly-coloured and textured prints, in muted, vegetal and silvery tones, hand-pulled from the stone by a master printer, from a portfolio of 120 images meditating upon the squares and constuctivist clusters of kasimir malevich. -- framed ---- robert schwarz studied art history and art education at the universities in heidelberg and mainz. From 1984 to 1991 he taught lithography at the mainz art academy. Since 1980 he has lived and worked as a freelance artist in mainz, focusing on lithography and book art. Schwarz has, among other things, created book art works on catullus, hofmannswaldau, goethe, hölderlin, kleist, büchner and trakl. He also designed books of hours and prayers. In recent years he has been working on combining the traditional medium of books with video, with video functioning as a synopsis/commentary on the book text, to be played in parrallel to reading.
