Very slender and elegant composition for this large crystal centerpiece of nancy; soft curves and rounded ends with avant-garde design. Signature engraved daum france with the cross of lorraine. Period: circa 1950. Dimensions: 66 X 14 X 12 cm, weight 10.75 kg. For 140 years, the daum glassworks has been part of the history of nancy crystal. Founded in 1878 by jean daum, the factory was taken over by his sons auguste and antonin in 1885 and quickly became one of the pillars of the art nouveau movement. At the beginning of the twentieth century, the daum worked with glass paste, an ancient egyptian method of melting glass, and perfected the process, creating beautiful and original objects. In 1937, the manufacture participated in the international exhibition of arts and techniques in paris with a new line of colorless crystals cut with a grinding wheel by facets that refract light. After the war, children and grandchildren took up the torch. Begins the era of transparent white crystal with harmonious shapes, drawn to be twisted and worked in stirrups and shaped by hand, in the later style called "50 years". Great artists have collaborated with the lorraine company: dali, césar, roger tallon, arman, hilton mcconnico, etc.
