Writing/mail/stationery box. 19th century

Magnificent rosewood box inlaid with brass and mother-of-pearl. The original key, in the shape of a four-leaf clover, closes a compartmented drawer (the small central partition is missing) and a 3-part hinged steering wheel. This complex marquetry work is remarkable: the carvings are fine, the touches of blue and green mother-of-pearl vibrate and the composition is harmonious. Note a lifting of the tackle at the bottom right of the central steering wheel.
