Description
Six flat plates from the French earthenware maker Gien, "pont aux choux" service which refers to the factory created in 1748 and built on old ditches that had become market gardens where cabbages were grown. It was in 1819 that the Gien factory acquired Pont-aux-Choux and its iconic “au grain de riz” table service. In ecru-colored enameled earthenware, the six plates are scalloped, decorated with scrolls and the iconic “grain of rice” motif. Struck on the back, the stamp allows us to date the set between the 1960s and 1970s. In perfect condition with no chips or cracks.
