Description
"chevrette in nevers earthenware of xviii° period" This charming apothecary kid in earthenware, from the xviii° period, presents a floral decoration "cobalt blue". This color was developed by the potters of nevers to meet the growing demands for production. Indeed, this color better tolerated the high temperatures necessary for the hardening of the enamel. This kid has a handle and a ring and rests on a pedestal. Dimensions: h.20 cm X l.23 cm good condition nevers period xviii° Our wink: the "chevrette" owes its name to the shape of its spout which has the appearance of a deer wood (the chevrette is the female of the deer). This container was used by apothecaries to store liquid remedies: syrups, oils, distilled waters. Which will be bottled later. Only the corporation of apothecaries was then authorized to own and present in the window chevrettes... This led to numerous lawsuits against grocers who did not respect the law.
