Pitcher / jug in fine enameled red earthenware known as carmelite - between 1806 and 1840 - sarreguemines pitcher / water or wine jug in fine enameled red earthenware known as carmelite - between 1806 and 1840 - sarreguemines signed "sarreguemines" in capital letters, accompanied with another barely legible hollow mark. This elegant old pitcher with a timeless line, which has the originality of having a side handle perpendicular to the spout. Which is truly unusual and common, and both practical and aesthetic. Very good general condition, some scratches from use on the enamel and slight wear on the beak, see photos. But without brilliance or real lack of substance. In sarreguemines, in 1806, the production of pieces in fairly fine red-brown earthenware began, the color of which evokes the dress of the nuns of carmel, an order which was reborn at the same time. Thus, this earthenware will be named “terre carmelite”. Its quality even earned it the name “red sarreguemines porcelain”. These productions will contribute to the reputation of sarreguemines. Around 1850, the composition of the carmelite seemed to change, it became heavier. The pieces are also thicker. This is why this pitcher can be dated between approximately 1806 and 1840. Dimensions: height: 15cm width with handle: 13cm neck diameter: 7cm base diameter: 7cm max.: 11cm weight: approx. 360gr.
