Description
Original etching after Pablo Picasso, Metamorphoses by Ovid, 1970 Subject: Original etching after Pablo Picasso to illustrate Ovid's Metamorphoses, circa 1970 In 1931, thanks to the help of Jacqueline Apollinaire and on the advice of Pierre Matisse, the young Albert Skira, then twenty-five years old, convinced Pablo Picasso to illustrate Ovid's Metamorphoses with 30 etchings. Picasso's off-text etchings, centered on 15 myths, are of a rare homogeneity, in a style with pure contours and a discreet eroticism. Support: Fine white laid paper from the luxurious paper mills of Bellerive. Very nice quality. Sold without the Marie-Louise. Dimensions: 22 x 28 cm Condition: good general condition (see photo) Era: circa 1970
