Armchair by finn østergaard for kvist møbler, 1970 denmark. This earlier version of the albert armchair was designed by finn østergaard in the 1960s. It was manufactured by kvist møbler and it remains a classic example of scandinavian modern design. Scandinavian wood and ergonomics. At the beginning of the twentieth century, the possibilities of the former and questions about the latter stimulated the invention (particularly thanks to michael thonet) of a new woodworking technique: wood bending. It allowed woodworkers to create undulating shapes from wood – shapes that could follow the shape of the human body. Given the endless amount of wood available in the scandinavian countries, scandinavian designers in particular (such as alvar aalto) began to explore the new possibilities of this technique. Thonet's new bending method laid the foundation for the scandinavian design aesthetic as we perceive it today. The price is per seat. We have 3 in stock.
