Description
Period: ca. 1900-1920 this pretty bowl with handle is a quality piece. The round metal stand is adorned with beautifully executed roses that have been created via the trousseau technique. The base metal appears to be brass/copper that has been silvered; the silvering has thinned considerably and the current patina is an attractive mix of copper and silver tones. The movable handle is more square in shape and is decorated with sets of four pierced squares; it appears to be entirely original to the piece. The crystal lining with cut star pattern is also original to the piece. The style is typical of the viennese secession (austrian variant of art nouveau) which had its similarities with the art nouveau style of charles rennie mackintosh; roses and cut out squares being typical. Condition: very good. No damage. Silver layer largely removed. Dimensions: 17.5 cm wide at the handle, 19 cm high with handle, 7 cm high at the edge, 0.450 kg.
