Description
This lovely pair of plates is made of polychrome earthenware from sarreguemines. Decorated with a stencil decoration, representing flowery cuts in shades of red, green and brown. They are marked "opaque de sarreguemines". The paste used here, called "opaque", was intended to imitate chinese porcelain. The production of this opaque earthenware began in the 1860s. In perfect condition, they measure 21 cm in diameter. I report scratches and cracks in the enamel.
