Philippe d'évreux (march 27, 1306 – september 16, 1343), nicknamed "the noble" or "the wise", was count of évreux and, through his wife, king of navarre from 1328 to his death, under the name of philip III. Although at birth he was only a member of a younger branch of the french royal family, he managed to gain prominence when the line of direct capetians died out and acquired, in the name of his wife jeanne II of navarre, the iberian throne and several french fiefs.#884.
