Description
Oil on canvas in very good condition signed jean-marie luc blanpain (1947-2021) and dated July 1988, representing the Canadian athlete Ben Johnson in the middle of a relay race. Context of the work: after the Seoul Olympics (August-September 1988), the athlete was declared positive for doping, which probably led the artist to modify his work after the date of his initial signature (see the date appearing on the newspaper extracts pasted at the top left) and give it the title “ben johnson dope medal” work seeming to break with the themes of blanpain's previous works (in particular, seascapes, still lifes and horse scenes) Requires a frame in 25p format (81x60).
