Italian Mid-Century Wall Unit in Elm, Model "Aedes" by Amma Torino, 1950s

Minimalist yet elegant and highly functional, the single wall unit "aedes" was produced by the italian manufacturer amma torino in the 1950s. The name "aedes" is derived from the latin word for "tiger mosquito, " known for its distinctive black and white markings, which may be a reference to the unit's metal construction. The characteristic bend in the lower part of the rails also bears a resemblance to the shape of a mosquito's legs. Crafted from elm, this wall unit features a spacious cabinet with sliding doors and an inner shelf, along with three deep shelves ideal for displaying books and decorations. With its elm-veneered back, it is completely double-sided, making it suitable for use as a functional room divider. The uprights are made of black-painted curved metal tubing, ensuring excellent durability and longevity, while adjustable brass feet provide stability on uneven floors. The genius of its design lies in its modularity; the aedes collection is entirely modular, allowing for easy customization. All shelves and cabinets are movable and can be placed higher or lower. The slots, positioned at regular intervals (each 8 cm), enable intuitive assembly and expansion of the bookcase with additional sections. The set includes: One cabinet: h: 58 / w: 76 / d: 40 cm. Three shelves, each 28cm deep. Metal rails. Assembly accessories  The bookcase has been fully renovated. It is in excellent original condition, with only minimal traces of use consistent with its age. We have ensured that all mechanisms function properly, and the wood has been carefully preserved.
