A set of six 1950s fish plates. The perfect gift for anglers. They are very collectible and an ideal gift for fish chefs. Perfect for fish lovers the world over these would make a truly original present for anyone who loves fishing and cooking fish. These dinner plates have a wide border, with a gilded, lattice pattern, and a fluted, gilt line, edge. The plates measure 23.5cms / 9¼" diameter. They are deep, at the edges, 3cms/ 1¼", so that the fish can be served with sauces and dressings, without risk of spillage. They each weighs 450gms / 1 lb. There are six different designs illustrating various fish swimming amongst river reeds and pond weeds. The plates themselves are an antique white colour, the illustrations are in a subtle, muted palette of blues/greys/greens and dusky pinks. Stylishly understated, the detailing of the heads, fins, scales and tails is exquisite. The fish are dynamic in movement. The plates are all in excellent condition, with no chips. There is no fading to the gilding, it is still super sparkly! They do have the beginnings of ageing "hairline crackle" to the glazes, which is to be expected with the age of this set, and does not in any way detract from their beauty or functionality; in fact it adds to the charm and authenticity of these gorgeous plates. What perfect presentation plates for the ones that didn't get away!.
