Boucherouite rugs are another form of berber rugs, but they are distinguished from beni ouarain rugs by their manufacturing techniques and aesthetics. Unlike beni ouarain rugs which are woven from natural wool, boucherouite rugs are made from recycled materials, such as pieces of fabric, used clothing and colored cotton threads. These rugs are often very colorful and feature a wide variety of patterns and textures, reflecting the creativity and individuality of the weaver. Boucherouite rugs take their name from the berber word “boucherwit”, which means “pieces of fabric” or “rag weaving”. They are often considered unique works of art and are highly valued for their eclectic nature and fascinating history. Like beni ouarain rugs, boucherouite rugs are also popular in contemporary interior design for their ability to add color, texture and authenticity to a space.
