Two highly collectible and unique vintage mid-century vases from charles cart, france: 1 pitcher 1 watering can. These iconic vases were shaped by hand, then pressed and pinched on each side (from base to neck), to produce a more dynamic shape. The distinctive enamel of these pitcher and watering can vases was developed by charles cart, founder of the le cyclope pottery brand in annecy in haute savoie in france. The firing process reveals the black layer beneath the turquoise glaze in a way that suggests lava or glaciers. These are completely different, atypical and unique pieces, in openwork and enameled ceramic. In annecy, in the 1950s, charles cart began, in a very unconventional way, to ask chemists to teach him how to “spoil” enamels. In 1963 cart registered his pottery under the name: the cyclops, glacier enamels, snow enamels. After various experiments, cart developed a small range of characteristic 'lava' glazes: in blue, honey yellow, green and red, which he applied to hand-thrown earthenware pots at low temperatures. Glaze characteristics: when reaching a certain temperature, the glaze layers contract and bubble, producing craters that reveal the white and black layers beneath. Cart identified his work with a paper label incorporating "cyclops". Annecy handmade and the type of enamel used: “emaux des glaciers”. Snow enamels'; “emaux des garrigues”; 'emaux tierra de feu', etc. Even when the label is missing, cart's frostings are recognizable.
