Louvre Paris hat trunk

Magnificent little hat trunk with the lion fittings at the foot of a large l in reference to the "galeries du louvre" (chauchard et cie) in 1855, renamed in 1857: "grands magasins du louvre", only 3 years after the famous “cheap”. We are therefore immediately immersed in the history and luxury of an era even before the war of 70. In other words, historically, this trunk comes from the 19th century. The logo, a registered trademark, well known to enthusiasts, is that of the “jewellery” of the grands magasins du louvres. We also know that the manufacture of their trunks would have been entrusted to the trunk maker "au touriste", founded in 1847 by michel flandin, also known and referenced among the approximately 100 to 250 trunk makers who distinguished themselves at a time when, to travel, a family needed countless trunks... Including those with hats to match outfits and headgear. This is covered with brown coated canvas and surrounded by leather borders. This superb box is fitted with an original leather handle. In any case, it's a luxury trunk. Extremely rare, especially in such a beautiful state of conservation, this almost cubic trunk ("cube shape"), with beautiful brown-tawn colored canvas, has leather trim. Its fittings, clasps and even certain corners are made of solid brass. All of the lines attest from the first glance to a high-class object. The interior is astonishing. A second layer, rigid and rounded, covered in a pretty gray fabric, constitutes a special nest for the hats placed there. The fixing straps, marked by time, nevertheless attest to the care taken to protect the contents. This hat trunk is a plus in a vintage decoration and also from a storage and decoration perspective. At the end of the sofa, and even as a bedside table, it brings presence to your decor, but also a remarkable elegance, which will be appreciated.
