HST painting "The Ballade" by Marcel GAULT (1899-1989) painter from Franche-Comté

Painting made in oil on embedded canvas (vintage) dated 1949 and signed by the hand of marcel gault (1899-1989), also nicknamed "father gault" well-referenced artist (see attached bio) little local master franc -comtois (burgundy) whose works remain rare on the market. Very nice post-impressionist and materialist touch, healthy and clean pictorial layer (see photos, contractual) dimensions of the frame: 38 / 46 cm. Marcel gault was a student at the dijon school of fine arts in 1937-1938. His passion for painting came to him very early, at the age of seven, he already presented an exhibition of watercolors in his grandfather's barn. He then joined his sister around 1923, in paris, who studied cello with pablo casals. Marcel gault declared having followed fernand cormon's workshop in paris. He then began studying painting at the jules adler academy which prepared students for the prix de rome. In 1927, he obtained a first prize in engraving at this school. It was at this time that he met andré claudot, a painter from dijon. From the 1930s, he exhibited his works at the salon of the burgundy artistic and literary society l'essor. During the 1931 salon, the state acquired several of his woodcuts (series entitled "les paysans") for a total price of 50 francs.
