Chromed wall light part of the series am/as designed by the italians franco albini, franca helg and antonio piva for sirrah, 1960, italy. An early original production made of chromed-plated and inside lacquered metal. Dimensions: height fixture 14.2 in. (36 cm), diameter 8.3 inches (21 cm). Diameter wall plate 5.1 in. (13 cm). Total height 16.5 inches (42 cm). The lamp can move in all directions. Beautiful made and in an exceptionally good original condition. No scratches or dents. Looks like never used. Seems like new old stock. I was amazed at the ingenious way in which the lamp can be attached to the wall. And last but not least the safe solid electrical connection with a plug in a bakelite socket (see photos). The fixture is equipped with the original, regular (e26-e27) edison screw lamp socket. Max. 70 watt. The electric parts are in very good condition, works in the usa. Franco albini (1905 – 1977) was an italian architect, designer and university instructor in design. Albini obtained his degree in architecture at politecnico di milano university in 1929 and began his professional career working for gio ponti. Through his creations, the modern furniture design merged the italian traditional artisanship with the new forms of modernism. He exploited the very skilled italian craftsmanship. This also meant an elegant design based on a minimalist aesthetic. In 1950 he designed the famous and fashionable "margherita" and "gala" chairs, made of woven cane. In the 1960s he worked on industrial design as well as important architectural projects. In 1961 he designed the rome rinascente building. Three years later he designed with franca helg the milan subway stations. Albini worked for companies including brionvega, cassina, arflex, arteluce and poggi. In the 1950s and 1960s he taught interior design at the venice school of architecture. From 1963 to 1977 he taught design at politecnico di milano. Albini obtained three compasso d'oro awards.
