Description
Stunning set of two antique french majolica plates, dating from 1880, by sarragamines. The reputation of the faience of sarreguemines requires no further endorsement. In two centuries time the small family venture, established during the revolution, has gone a long way. Admirers of the lively and colourful pieces can be found all over the world. Paul utzschneider and paul de geiger, real artists, have brought the small city to the top of the earthenware industry: from the 19th century sarreguemines has provided the whole world with a vast collection of earthenware, vases, decorative flower pots, wall frescos, chimneys, and so on. It is majolica ceramic, with an impressive degree of detail that shows a large vine leaf and small bunches of grapes. The lobed edge of the plate is absolutely gorgeous. They are hand painted and the colors used are simply magnificent, truly beautiful, highlighting the gradient green of the edges. The price is for the set of two plates. They are in very good condition, but one of them has a small chip that I show in detail in a photo. Each plate measures 19.5 cm in diameter and 2 cm high.
