Description
Armchair with metal structure in wrought iron with double arch. Model of the 1850s created by peter cooper for the r.w. Winfield & co manufacture in birmingham company specializing mainly in the manufacture of armchairs and beds in metal tubes for domestic and military use. It was first exhibited at the great london exhibition in 1851 in hyde park. Only the seat is made of wooden slats. Upholstered leather upholstery typical of victorian fashion at the time covers the entire armchair. From the outset the model was a great success both for its lines of great simplicity for the time and also for its practical side because fully removable very easily. I cannot say the exact date of manufacture in the absence of marking, stamping, engraving. Without mistake I will say late 19th debut 20th. It's a bit vague, I admit. The metal structure was completely stripped like the bronze bolts laitonnė. The leather mattress has been cleaned, greased and waxed but has wear due to the drying of the leather. The armchair is perfectly functional.
