Beautiful watercolor representing a young woman with a basket of fruit. Very well made for this work, sold in its original frame (the frame has signs of wear, to be cleaned, but the glass has the advantage of being old). The work is signed by gustave roux (bio attached). Dimensions of the view: 11.5 / 14.5 cm, with frame: 28 / 34 cm. Gustave louis gabriel roux, born in grandson on december 30, 1828, died in geneva on march 22, 1885, is a swiss illustrator, watercolorist and musician. Biography after the death of his father in 1842, gustave roux moved with his mother to lausanne, where he began studying theology before deciding to devote himself entirely to art by becoming an engraver-decorator. He trained in munich and at the rochat workshop in geneva. He left for paris in 1851 and perfected his skills in wood engraving, working until 1870 as an illustrator for magazines, notably for l'illustration, le journal pour tous, le magasin pittoresque. He signs g. Roux. In 1877, after the death of his wife and his youngest son, gustave roux moved to geneva with his brother-in-law elisée mayor, a ceramist at the geneva school of fine arts. In geneva, he illustrated tourist guides published by the publisher orell füssli (vevey and its surroundings; thun and lake thun). Gustave roux died of a heart attack on march 22, 1885 in geneva.
